Parting is such sweet sorrow.............

Strippy Log Cabin designed by Janet Keenan made by me.
I am parting company with this quilt and I have very mixed emotions about it. It is going to a very good home, my sister in-law Karen. It will be a gift for her 50th birthday. I made the quilt in 2010 and it has only been out of the box that stores all my finished quilts 3 maybe 4 times, in the last two years. I know she will cherish, love it and more importantly she will use it to keep her extra warm in the winter months. So why does a part of me ache at giving it away? Does anyone else feel the same about parting with their quilts?

Hi Susanne. I love your quilt especially the colours. I've got a copy of this pattern but haven't got started on it. too many other things to finish. It's nice to know it will have a good home and be enjoyed by someone. I don't often give any of my quilts away but I do use them. especially if I have someone staying, I have heard some horror stories of quilts made as presents and ending up as linings in dog baskets or wrapped around objects and left in the garage noooo thank you!!

Hi Joan its a lovely quilt to make. I made two but the other one only got as far as being a top. I hope to have it quilted one day (its on the todo list). Yes you do hear horror stories O_O and I know Karen will treasure it. xxxx

If you know the recipient will love it and look after it, it's a pleasure to give it away, but I agree, it's hard to part with something you put your heart and soul into.
it is beautiful and I would love to see Karen's face when she opens her present!

It is a lovely quilt Susan - I am sure that Karen will love it. I find it very difficult to part with a quilt unless I have made it specifically for someone - ie right from the start I know where it is going. My love for that person then goes into the quilt and it feels right to part with it. I have a couple of quilts sitting in a drawer which I don't think I will ever part with even though they are not on show. Maybe one day I will have the space to display them!

Hi Kath, your quite right giving a quilt to someone who will love it as much as you makes it easier to part with. xx

Hi Lin, I have one quilt on our bed it is very special. It is my wonderblock quilt. It is the only one of my quilts I have had professionaly quilted and it is my heireloom quilt to be passed to my daughter. Yes I agree I find it easier to part with quilts that are specifically made to be given away from the out set. What funny little ways we have over our quilts xx
